Making The Move Less Stressful for Kids

We not only move furniture, we move people's livesis a common, It is not only the movement of possessions that takes place, sometimes this change results in an emotional setback to people who are not mentally prepared for a change. Moving is one of the greatest stresses we face in our lives and if you are moving with kids, it is surely going to make your move way stressful.

Of all the stressful situations that a human faces in life, moving related stress ranks just after losing a close relative or a divorce. Though adults can easily cope up with the moving stress, as they are familiar to the practical issues of moving to a new place, it is hard to pacify kids. Children have a lot to loose, while leaving their home and familiar locations behind. They are afraid of loosing their friends, familiar surroundings and people they know.

Children cope with excitement as well as emotions differently than adults. They face a hard time coping with a change in their routine. Following behavioral changes in kids, help in understanding whether they are bothered by the move and are excited about it.

  • They start sucking their thumb
  • If they are below five years, they may start wetting the bed.
  • They may cling to you all the time, for the fear of getting separated.
  • An older kid may refuse to eat or become aggressive.
  • Some may face trouble in concentrating on studies after knowing about the move.

All of these are stress reactions. You can do the following things to make move less stressful for kids:

Inform the kids the moment you decide to move
Children must not feel that the decision of moving is taken by parents and they are powerless. Give them as much information about the move as soon as possible. If your kids are below five, give them some funny explanations for moving. You can say that Santa wants us to move to a new home, so that he can give more gifts on the coming Christmas. A London removals firm will take the hassle out of your move.

Move as if you are going on a vacation. Despite the fact that traveling light is good, do not try to get rid of your childrenfavorite things before the move. Parting with the things, they are so used to, will only add to the moving stress.

Kids, who are excited about the move, run around and create mess all the time. You can address the problem by creating a urprise bag Keep toys, games, chocolates and small packages in it. This will keep the kids from any nuisance while moving.
